Bristol is a county in Massachusetts. It was formed in 1685 as Bristol County from the following county/ies: Plymouth Colony. It began keeping land records in 1685, probate records in 1685, and court records in 1685. For more information, contact the county at 11 Court St., Taunton 02780. On the attached map, Bristol is located at G5. The county seat was Bristol until 1746 when succeeded by Taunton. The Taunton seat divided into three districts in 1837 with the above remaining as probate office but only registry of deeds for the Northern District (see Town Resources for towns in each of Bristol’s registry of deeds districts).
