A.J. Conaway Jr., Anniston ANNISTON — Funeral services for A.J. Conaway Jr., 83, of Anniston will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Hamilton officiating. Entombment will be in Anniston Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home. Mr. Conaway died Tuesday at Jacksonville Medical Center. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Hope Conaway; his son, Charles Alan Conaway and his wife, Tawana; two grandchildren, Alaina Leigh and Amber Hope Conaway; and one brother, Kenneth Earl Conaway and his wife, Mary. Pallbearers will be Ken Conaway, Bryan Conaway, Jeff Conaway, James (Sonny) Conaway, Rod Conaway and Keith Willingham. Mr. Conaway was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He was retired from the Calhoun County Vocational School with an AA Degree as an Educational Specialist. He was a teacher of auto mechanics, body and fender repair, small engine repair and related subjects for 39 years. He was a member of Fairview Heights/Northside Baptist Church and a pthe Revious member and deacon of Wilmer Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Motley died May 19, 2008. www.goodsonfuneralhome.net ROANOKE — Funeral services for Thomas "Tom" Gayrel Prestridge, 90, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2008, from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Holder and The Rev. Dr. Arvid Straube officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 tonight, May 22, 2008. Mr. Prestridge died Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Randolph Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Hargett Prestridge, of Roanoke; two daughters, Sonya Prestridge Straube, husband, Dr. Arvid Straube, of San Diego, Cal., and Kathleen "Kathy" Jones, husband, Owen Jones, of New Orleans, La.; two granddaughters, Suzanna Sexton, husband Freddie, of Oakwood, Texas, and Mimi Owens, husband, Todd, of Norfolk, Va.; two great granddaughters, Sydney Evelyn Owens and Britton Taylor Owens; one sister, Mae Wells, of Hartselle; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Prestridge, wife of deceased brother, Hugh; one brother, Bill Prestridge, wife, Gina, of Camden, Tenn. Pallbearers will be Mike Breed, Tommy Cato, Shermon Potts, Charles Hodges, Spec Bonner, Sam McKinley, Don Duncan, and Tim McDaniels. Mr. Prestridge was born, April 13, 1918, son of Huey Dothard and LouElla Gabriel Prestridge. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of First Baptist Church in Roanoke. Mr. Prestridge was a founding member of the Roanoke Country Club, where he continued to play into his 70s, shooting par on his 72nd birthday. He was a machinist and had retired from W.A. Handley Mills. Mr. Prestridge loved all nature and could make a pet out of any creature. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Barnett; brothers, James N. Prestridge and Hugh F. Prestridge. Flowers will be accepted or donations to the First Baptist Church. PIEDMONT — Services for Margaret Janell Rhinehart, 85, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home. Visitation from noon until time of services at the funeral home. WEDOWEE — Laska Rice passed away at her home Tuesday, May 20, 2008. She is survived by her children, Harold and Letha Rice, Helen and J.B. Stanley, Janice and Terry Flournoy, Jerry and Dianne Rice; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three special people, Nancy Morrison, Debra Gilmore and Dollie Higgins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years Luther Rice; one infant one; parents, Lonnie and Della White; three brothers, Pascal, Braska and Coleman White. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, a choir member and a supporter of all church functions. She was employed by Playtex, Lafayette, Ala. in the late 1960s. She was employed by the Auburn Extension Service in Randolph County from March 8, 1971 to March 30, 1979 (from the programs beginning until it was phased out) in the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program as Program Assistant. She helped low income families with educational information on meal planning, food preparation, budget stretching, food safety and health. She was a mentor to the homemakers enrolled in the program as well as those involved in the Extension Homemakers Club. She received several swards in recognition of her work in Randolph County Extension Service. The Leadership Award in 1970, Alabama Extension Homemakers Council Special Recognition Award 1991, Outstanding Service Award from Auburn University in 1994, and Randolph County Homemaker of the Year in 2005. She was a member for 71 years of the Swagg Homemakers Club, where she served as officer in all offices; Charter member of the Mountain Laurel Community Club; Lake Wedowee Property Owners Association; served in several offices and on many committees with the Randolph County Council. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, May 22, 2008, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, County Road 129, Wedowee, Ala. Mrs. Rice will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial in the adjoining cemetery with the Rev. Corky Addison officiating. Pallbearers will be Tim Stanley, Todd Stanley, David Nolen, Harold Rice Jr., and Chuck Rice. Honorary pallbearers will be great grandsons, and the Swagg Homemakers Club. Flowers will be accepted or donations to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2451 County Road 32, Wedowee, Ala. 36278. RANBURNE — Funeral services for Ezell Ward, 87, will be 2 p.m. (Ga. Time) Friday at Freedom Baptist Church.
