In some cases also an Americanized or Germanized form Slovenian Mežnar (see Meznarich ) or Mesner cognates of 1 above. Jewish (Ashkenazic): occupational for a sexton in a synagogue from southern German Messner ‘sexton’ (compare 1 above).
