Information for Macintosh Users

Dear Mac User,

Thank you for your interest in Ancestry products.

At the present time, virtually all of our CDs only work on PCs that use or emulate the Windows operating system. We do realize what a problem that this is for those of you with Macintosh computers.

One year ago efforts were well underway to create a Mac software application that would have allowed Macintosh and Windows users alike to read all of our data CDs.  This was not a simple process, but we were making steady progress toward completion when a bug was found in the authoring tool that we were required to use to build the Mac reader.  Under normal circumstances this bug would have been considered small and easily fixed.  Unfortunately, the aforementioned tool was created by a company that has since discontinued all development work on the Macintosh platform and we have been unable to convince them to allocate the necessary resources on our behalf.

Consequently, we have been forced back to the "drawing board."

It remains true that we are dedicated to doing all we can to support Macintosh users. We have sent an open invitation to Macintosh application developers with experience in distributing large databases on CD-ROM, but to date we have not received any bids. Nevertheless, we remain committed to working toward this important goal.

We appreciate the Mac community for, among other things, its continued patience, understanding and patronage.

Sincerely,
