derivative of Latin Traianus. This was the name of a Roman
emperor (53–117), who extended the Roman Empire east into Dacia
(modern Romania). In early Slavic records the name is also borne by a

trojan ‘triplet’, from the numeral tri ‘three’. This
was used as a personal name, bestowed on children born on the Feast of
the Holy Trinity, and as a surname for people living at a house
distinguished by the sign of a Golden Three.The surname is
