from the Isle of Sheppey (Kent) which is recorded as Sceapige in the 9th century Sheepy Magna and Parva (Leics) recorded as Scepeie in 1199 and possibly also from Shippea Hill on the Isle of Ely (Cambs) which is recorded as Shypeye in the 13th century. The place-names derive from Old English scēap ‘sheep’ + ēg ‘island’.
