This surname is also found in Poland (mainly in the southeastern part of country near to the border with Ukraine). Czech (Šereda): unflattering nickname from šereda ‘nasty person’. Possibly also an Americanized form of Hungarian Szereda: nickname from szerda ‘Wednesday’ a loanword from Slavic (see above).
