Polish Ukrainian Belorussian and Jewish (eastern Ashkenazic): nickname from an East Slavic word meaning ‘light brown’ with allusion to the coloring of hair or skin (compare Polish archaic rusy Ukrainian and Russian rusyy). Jewish (eastern Ashkenazic): habitational name from Rusaki in Belarus.
