Rampley Family History
Rampley Name Meaning
English (Suffolk and Norfolk): perhaps a nickname for a person perceived as obsequious from an unrecorded Old French rampolie a derivative of either Old French ramper ‘to climb’ or Old French rampir ‘to creep crawl’. It may survive in French rampolie a 19th-century dialect word (in Meuse) for the tree creeper.
