meaning smooth (as in Welsh llyfyn). The Scottish place name is
from a Gaelic river name meaning ‘elm river’.Dutch
and North German: from a Flemish saint’s name, Lefwin
(Lieven), the patron saint of Ghent (see Lewin 2).
