This achieved some popularity in France and elsewhere, being bestowed in honor of St Jerome (?347–420), creator of the Vulgate, the standard Latin version of the Bible.English (of Norman origin): from a personal name, Gerram, composed of the Germanic elements gar, ger ‘spear’ + hraban ‘raven’.
