Hulley Name Meaning
English (Yorkshire): habitational name from Ulley near Sheffield (Yorkshire) + prosthetic H-. The placename probably derives from Old English ūle ‘owl’ + lēah ‘woodland clearing’. In North Yorkshire and northern Yorkshire it could alternatively derive from either of two places in Picardy called Ully-Saint-Georges (Oise) and Œuilly (Aisne) or from either of two neighboring places in Haut-Marne Northeast France called Heuilley-Cotton and Heuilley-le Grand.
