tumulus, Old English beorg, a cognate of Old High German
berg ‘hill’, ‘mountain’ (see Berg). This name has become
confused with derivatives of Old English burh ‘fort’ (see
Burke). Reaney suggests a further derivation from Old English
bur ‘bower’ + hus ‘house’.
