English: habitational name from either of two places called
Benington, in Hertfordshire and Lincolnshire, or from Long Bennington
in Lincolnshire. The first is recorded in Domesday Book as
Benintone ‘farmstead or settlement (Old English tun)
by the Beane river’; both Lincolnshire names are derived from the Old
English personal name Beonna + -ing-, a connective
particle denoting association, + tun.
