(Kent): variant of Burvill a habitational name from Barville in Tilmanstone Kent named with Old English bær ‘bare’ + feld ‘open land’. habitational name from Bardfield Saling and Great and Little Bardfield (all in Essex) which is perhaps named with an unattested Old English byrde ‘(river) bank border’ + feld ‘open land’. The name is still most common in northern Essex.
