PC Magazine has written a review of the leading genealogy
programs for Windows for its 17 September 2002 edition. The review compares
Ancestral Quest 3.0, Family Origins Deluxe 10.0, Family Tree Maker 10 Deluxe
Edition, Family Trees Quick & Easy 5.0, Generations Family Tree Plus, Legacy
Family Tree 4.0 Deluxe Edition and Personal Ancestral File 5.0.
A major omission seems to be The Master Genealogist; however,
author Nancy Hirsch does pay quite a compliment to the program by saying, "If
your research is closing in on obsession, consider trying Master Genealogist
($80 street, www.whollygenes.com).
Though too complicated for most beginners, its professional tools are powerful
enough for those who take their research very seriously."
Hirsch gives a one-paragraph description of each of the other
six programs, along with prices and a reference to each program’s webpage. Hirsch’s
pick for the Editor’s Choice Award is Legacy Family Tree 4.0 Deluxe Edition.
She writes, "Legacy Family Tree is an easy-to-use yet full-featured program
at a great price."
