Ancestry.com Launches New United Kingdom and Ireland Family History Collection
Ancestry.com has released a major new online database that should become a great resource for anyone researching U.K. or Irish genealogy. The following is a press release from MyFamily.com, owners and operators of Ancestry.com:

MyFamily.com Inc., the leading media company for connecting families with their histories, origins and one another, today announced that it has added a new United Kingdom and Ireland subscription to its Ancestry.com service. The new collection debuts with 50 million names extracted from sources such as immigration, parish, birth, marriage and death records from throughout the region. Accessible from the www.ancestry.com site, the United Kingdom and Ireland subscription is available for $69.95 annually or $24.95 quarterly. Current Ancestry.com subscribers can add the new annual subscription to their account for only $29.95.

"Adding a new United Kingdom and Ireland subscription offering to Ancestry.com is a natural expansion on our position as the global leader in online family history research," said Tom Stockham, CEO of MyFamily.com. "Our commitment is to continually provide access to high quality data collections, products, and services to help people connect with their past. This marks the beginning of a collection that will continue to grow and expand aggressively in the months and years ahead."

As the leading online source for family history information, Ancestry.com has amassed the world's largest collection of online genealogy data with more than 1.2 billion names. In addition to the United Kingdom and Ireland subscription, Ancestry.com offers subscriptions to U.S. Federal Census Images and to its Data Collection. Ancestry.com also makes hundreds of millions of names and family trees available for free to all site visitors.

Featured databases available in the United Kingdom and Ireland Collection include:

    • United Kingdom and Ireland Parish and Probate Records – Includes 15 million birth, marriage, death, probate, and burial names from historical parish registers in England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland ranging from 1538 to 1837.
    • England and Wales, Civil Registration Indexes -- A collection of 14 million names includes an alphabetical index that is searchable by name, record type, district, and county. Going forward, this index will grow to include every registered birth, marriage, and death in England and Wales between 1837 and 1900.
    • Pallot Marriage and Baptism Indexes -- This exclusive 4-million name collection from the England and Wales area identifies the Parish in which the marriage or baptism was celebrated, the names of the participants and the date of the event. An image of the original record is also available to be viewed online.
    • Irish Immigrants: New York Port Arrivals Index -- This index of six hundred thousand catalogues the immigration of the Irish during the Potato Famine of 1846-1851 through passenger lists and other immigration documents.

First launched in 1996, Ancestry.com began with 50 million names and has grown by continually adding databases on a daily basis. Paid subscriptions to the Ancestry.com services now total in excess of four hundred thousand, making it one of the largest paid subscription sites on the Internet.
