For the second consecutive year, the Senate has approved legislation
introduced by Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) to designate October 2002 as "Family
History Month."
"Family history sites continue to be some of the most popular
on the Internet," Hatch said. "More than 80 million Americans are
actively searching for more information about their ancestors; next to gardening,
it’s our nation’s second most popular hobby."
Hatch’s bill, S. Res. 330, commemorates October 2002 as Family
History Month and encourages President Bush to issue a proclamation calling
upon the people of the United States to observe the month of October with appropriate
ceremonies and activities.
