Anyone with Michigan ancestry will want to look at a website
that presently has more than 200,000 Michigan genealogy records online. The
information available today on the Michigan Family History Network includes
prison records, photo galleries, maps of county lines, lists of mining accidents,
transcriptions of handwritten censuses from early in the state's history, records
of births, marriages, deaths and pensions, and employment and family histories.
A lengthy list of all the databases available may be found at: www.mifamilyhistory.org/datbases.asp.
New data, ranging from cemetery headstone transcripts to Great Lakes passenger
manifests, is constantly being posted.
Looking for a Michigan ancestor who seems to have just "disappeared"?
Make sure you check the list of "Prisoners In Michigan State Prisons From
1847-85 With Life Sentences" that is available on this website!
The posted information came from many sources, much of it submitted
by volunteers. As a result, the data varies a bit in coverage and consistency.
However, the fact remains that there is a lot of data available on this site!
Id suggest that you always look for Michigan ancestors on this site, but
also keep in mind that you are not searching 100 percent of the records. You are only
searching those records that have been transcribed to date.
The Michigan Family History Network is constantly looking for
new data and invites you to submit information that you may have. This site
is non-commercial, so your data will not be sold to others.
I spent a bit of time on the Michigan Family History Network and
was very impressed. The interface is pleasant and easy to use. I had no difficulty
navigating through the various databases. Donna Hoff-Grambau and Patricia Wazny
Hamp are to be commended for an effort that is well done and provides a valuable
service to thousands.
