The Upcoming Events section of this newsletter is published once per month, usually in the first newsletter of each month. Each event will be listed very briefly: title, date(s), location, and sponsoring organization, all followed by either an e-mail address or a Web page that you can use to find more information. Since detailed information is available via e-mail or the Web, I will not list the details in this newsletter. If you do contact any of these organizations, please tell them where you heard about the event.

The Villages Genealogical Society (Florida) will host Henry Z. ("Hank") Jones, author of Psychic Roots, for an all-day seminar on 8 November 2001. The Computer Science Department of Brigham Young University will be presenting a colloquium by the Family History Technology Group focused on "Technology Research on Family History and Genealogy". The Florida State Genealogical Society celebrates its 25th annual conference year with a two-day event in Orlando, Florida. The conference, featuring main speaker, George G. The Arizona Genealogical Computer Interest Group will host a "Pat Hatcher Seminar" on 10 November 2001 in Mesa, Arizona. Details may be found at: www.agcig.org/hatcher.htm

The Genealogical Society of Broward County (Florida) will host an all-day seminar on 10 November 2002, in Plantation (located west of Ft. Lauderdale). The speaker will be Henry Z. *The Kentucky Genealogical Society’s 10 November 2001 Meeting will feature "The Life and Times of Henry Clay." Dr. Melba Porter Hay, of the Kentucky Historical Society, Division Manager, Research and Publications will speak on one of our most famous Kentuckians in her talk, "The Life and Times of Henry Clay." Members of the public who are exploring their own family's history and those generally interested in history and genealogy will be most welcomed. For further information, contact jimmonomoy@aol.com.

*The Jewish Genealogy Society of Orange County invites members and the public to a free genealogy workshop to be held at the Art Gallery, Club House One, Leisure World, Laguna Woods, California, on 11 November 2001. In addition to one-on-one help for new genealogists, the workshop will offer access to the Society s library, access to the Society's maps, information on using the Ellis Island Records Web site, translation services for European languages, how to find U.S. records, demonstration of the Family Tree Maker software, and the Jewish Genealogy Family Finder (hard copy). Randy Thompson, an Archive Specialist from the National Archives and Records Administration, Laguna Niguel, will speak to workshop attendees regarding records available at the Archives. *The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society in New York City is sponsoring a workshop on 17 November: Genealogy and the Internet: An All-Day Workshop for Genealogists and Family Historians. For more information, please visit the NYG&B's Web site at www.nygbs.org.

*The Dutchess County [NY] Genealogical Society will hold its fall seminar on 17 November 2001 in Poughkeepsie, New York. There will be four program time slots, with a choice of two topics in each time slot, one computer-related, and one not. Speakers include Melinda L. Carter, Christine Crawford-Oppenheimer, Linda Koehler, and Robin Walsh. Topics include various computer topics, using the census, documenting sources, and finding clues for ancestors' foreign origins. For more information, contact cco4cats@prodigy.net.

GENETCH 2002, the premier "technology in genealogy" event, will be held 25-26 January in Boston, Massachusetts. The conference will be held in the Hynes Convention Center, an excellent location for a mid-winter conference. Attendees will be able to attend the conference, walk to hotels, stores and many restaurants in shirtsleeve comfort, regardless of the outside weather. 50 different presentations will be made on a wide variety of computer, digital imaging and genetics topics. The presenters include many of the best-known names in genealogy technology. Details are available at: www.gentech.org.

The Friends of Genealogy (FOG) at the Newberry Library in Chicago, Illinois will sponsor "Researching Irish Roots" on 7 February 2002. The lecturer will be Brian Donovan of the Irish Heritage Center. You can obtain more information at: www.newberry.org/nl/friends/L3fgenealogy.html

The Dallas Genealogical Society announces that the third lecture of its Lecture Series will be held on 9 February 2002 at 9 a.m. The speaker will be Curt B. Witcher of the Allen County Library. He will speak on "Historical Research Methodology: Engaging the Process to Find All the Answers", "Passenger and Immigration Research", "Using Government Documents for Genealogical Research", and "Who's Who Among Your Ancestors: Using Biographical Sources for Genealogical Research." *Carl Sandburg College proudly announces the 4th annual Genealogy Computing "Week" in March of 2002. This series of workshops will be held in Galesburg, Illinois, and will be presented by Michael John Neill, columnist for the Ancestry Daily News and faculty member at Carl Sandburg College. All workshops will be held in state-of-the-art computer labs with time for hands-on practice. Enrollment is limited and registration is only $35 per day. The Dallas Genealogical Society announces that the fourth lecture of its Lecture Series will be held on 6 April 6 2002 at 9 a.m.. The Computer Interest Group of the DGS will jointly sponsor it. The Virginia Genealogical Society will hold its annual Spring Conference, "Neglected Sources: Unturned Stones," on 6 April 2002 at the Library of Virginia in Richmond. Eight sessions will be held, including two for beginning researchers. A box lunch will be included for those who register before 25 March 2002, and vendors will be present offering a wide assortment of genealogical books and materials. *The Ontario Genealogical Society, Region V, holds its annual programme at the Civic Garden Centre, in Edwards Gardens, Toronto on 13 April 2002. The theme is "The Art and Science of Genealogy". The keynote speaker is Dr. Penny Christensen of Vancouver, B.C., who will discuss the survival of your research, sources, evidence and genealogical proof.
