AncestryPlus Genealogy Service for Libraries

The following is an extract from a press release from The Gale Group:

The Gale Group, a unit of The Thomson Corporation's Thomson Learning group, and Ancestry.com are joining forces on a new online genealogy service for libraries.

AncestryPlus will integrate Ancestry.com's vast information resources, including more than 10 million images of the U.S. Federal Census forms, with the Gale Group's acclaimed genealogical references in a simple Web interface.

"AncestryPlus puts three powerful genealogy resources together: Ancestry.com, Gale Group, and libraries," said Allen Paschal, Gale Group CEO. "We're putting the most effective resources for tracing family history together in the spot where genealogists have the most abundant access to local history: the library."

Ancestry.com is a consumer online service containing records on more than 1 billion names, along with information on how to begin family research. In addition to its store of the entire U.S Federal Census forms from 1790-1920, Ancestry.com also provides information from vital, church, military, and court, and probate records. Gale Group's Passenger and Immigration records have been staples in library genealogy collections for more than thirty years. AncestryPlus marks the first time this information has been combined in a single product.

AncestryPlus will debut in late summer, 2001. For more information about this or any Gale Group product, contact them at 1-800-877-4253.
