In a December 2000 edition of this newsletter, I wrote about the
Pocket Genealogist, a genealogy program for Windows CE handheld computers. I
now keep my genealogy database in my Compaq iPAQ, a computer that slides into
my shirt pocket. This was a very useful tool at the recent NGS conference when
I was comparing notes with other genealogists, looking for mutual ancestors.

Northern Hills Software, producer of the Pocket Genealogist, has
now released a major update. For the first time, version 2.0 adds data entry
capabilities. Data is entered in the form of "Research Notes." The
software is available in two levels: Basic and Advanced. The Advanced version
offers the capability of directly importing data from Legacy Family Tree; no
GEDCOM files are required. Of course, it still accepts GEDCOM files created
by other genealogy programs, as does the Basic version.
The Basic version sells for $20 (U.S. funds), while the Advanced
version is $35. A 30-day free trial is available. For more information, or to
download the free trial version, go to: www.NorthernHillsSoftware.com.
