GENSOFT is an annual conference in Calgary that is devoted
to the topic of genealogy software. The Genealogical Computer Group of The
Alberta Family Histories Society sponsors GENSOFT.
This year’s event will be the 11th annual GENSOFT
conference, and it promises to be a good one. I noticed that one of the
organizers of this year’s event is Bill Mumford, author of "The
Genealogical Software Report Card."
The "Report Card" is an excellent side-by-side comparison of the
strengths and weaknesses of 16 of the most popular genealogy programs for
Windows. I suspect that Bill’s involvement in a genealogy software conference
will guarantee a great learning experience. I also understand that Bill has
recruited a number of other genealogy experts to give presentations as well.
Here is the announcement from the Alberta Family Histories
Society:
The Genealogical Computer Group of The Alberta Family
Histories Society will present the 11th Annual GENSOFT 2001 conference on
Saturday, 10 March 2001 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hospitality Inn,
Southland Drive and MacLeod Trail, S.E. Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
GENSOFT is a forum of seminars and exhibits presenting the
benefits of current technology in the evolving world of family history
research.
This year, the display area will feature demonstrations of
eight genealogical software programs, commercial displays, and
representatives from local resource institutions. Experts in the field of
research and computer technology will staff information and help desks.
Four lecture rooms will offer 20 lectures on topics
ranging from getting started to mining the Internet.
Admission is $5 per person (includes one lecture).
Additional lectures are $1 (to a max of four additional lectures). Door prizes will be given.
