Heritage Quest, a subdivision of SierraHome, has announced a new
World Immigration Series of genealogy CDs. The first three CDs in this series,
Germany, Ireland, and Great Britain, are collections of historical information,
1870 U.S. Census data, professional articles, and rich period photos that
recreate the stories of ancestors who immigrated to America from these
countries. The CDs for each country are sold individually and provide an
historic profile focused on 19th-century immigration to America from these
nations.
"Millions of Germans and Irish came to America during the
Age of Immigration, 1820-1924, and untold numbers came during British
immigration waves dating back to the mid-1600s, " said Brad Steuart,
president of Heritage Quest. "Many family historians are curious about what
conditions led to their ancestors' exodus, their experiences at America's ports
of entry, and how they settled into their new homeland. The World Immigration
Series CDs are rich and vivid collections that paint a picture of life during
these amazing periods of transition for our ancestors."
Each country profiled in the World Immigration Series is divided
into the following categories:
- History: Sections such as Immigration, Settling America, Cultural Origins
and Genealogy give a detailed history of the social, economic and political
landscape for immigrants during the 19th and 20th centuries.
- Articles: Each CD contains dozens of articles from Heritage Quest
magazine, focused on the
historical events that led up to immigration, and how to find genealogy
records relating to German, Irish and British lineage in the U.S. and
abroad.
- Ports: Information about the entrance points that immigrants traveled
through and the trials and tribulations they endured to become American
citizens.
- View: Hundreds of images including detailed maps, and period photos of
towns, historic events and landmarks. Also includes additional genealogy
resources, such as Web links for searching the U.S. Census records and other
important databases.
- Census: U.S. Census records from 1870, sorted by country of origin.
Searchable by name, age, sex, race, birthplace, locality, and country.
