The Genealogical Society of Ireland, as of the 25 October 2000, became the first genealogical organization in Ireland and the first Irish genealogical society anywhere to receive a Warrant from the Chief Herald of Ireland for the issue of Letters Patent granting unto it Armorial Ensigns

With the Motto: Cuimhnigi ar Ar Sinnsir (Remember Our Ancestors)
For Badge: On a hurt fimbriated a hungerford knot the ends acorned (or knot in shamrock shape of golden rope on blue disc with gold line around edges)
The Warrant is issued under the Seal of the Chief Herald of Ireland.
The granting of the Heraldic Badge was made possible by the generous donation made for same by Barbara Mungovan Koch in the United States in honour of her father Joseph A. Mungovan, who will be 70 in June 2001. When manufactured in enamel, Members of the Genealogical Society of Ireland will be able to wear the "Mungovan Badge."
The inclusion of the sprig of oak is in remembrance of our late President, O Conor Don, who died in July. The Arms of O'Conor Don contain an Irish oak tree. On Wednesday, 25 October, the society planted an Irish oak on Killiney Hill overlooking Dublin City to mark the 10th anniversary of the foundation of the organization and as a mark of respect to our late president, O Conor, Don 1912-2000.
