Poorhouse Story
http://www.poorhousestory.com/
This site's purpose is "to provide a clearinghouse for information about 19th-century American poorhouses for . . . history buffs, genealogists, teachers/students, and others with a similar interest." Created by "The Poorhouse Lady" (a.k.a. Linda Crannell), it contains information on record availability, postcards of some facilities, links, and helpful hints for researchers wishing to consult poorhouse records. Since the site started with information specific to New York poorhouses, that state's information is more comprehensive. However, information has been added for other U.S. states, and the site is seeking help from visitors in the form of information from their own experiences. All in all, this is an interesting site with some great informationdefinitely worth a visit.
