As soon as I read the article about our ancestors' music, I remembered a website I used to make birthday cards.
It is dMarie Time Capsule (http://dmarie.com/timecap/). I'm sure there are other similar sites.
The article says, "Placing our ancestors' lives into context involves more than just determining a geographical location and time period. We must strive to understand the influences of other people and events on them, their participation in those events, and the minute details of their everyday lives." This really struck a chord with me and made me think I could use the time capsule site to gain a better understanding of what was going on during my ancestors' lives.
I went to the site and started putting in different dates. Starting with the year 1800, I found that you can find "News Headlines," "Presidents," and "People Born" on a particular day.
Starting with the year 1880, you can also find "Top Songs" and "Prices." Plus, starting in 1900 you can find "Top Books." The site is easy to navigate and print and I will start using the pages to make my families history more interesting and improve my own learning of the past.
