Online Family Tree
Uploading a GEDCOM File

The Online Family Tree allows you to create a family tree in a separate genealogy program and export it as a GEDCOM file and then import the file into the Online Family Tree. In order to upload a family tree, you must first create a GEDCOM file and then follow the instructions below:

  1. From the main Online Family Tree page, click the Upload Gedcom Now! link located near the bottom of the page. The Upload GEDCOM File page will display.

  2. Click in the Description field and enter the title of the family tree you are uploading.

  3. Click the Browse button and locate the GEDCOM file you want to upload.  A Choose File window will display.

  4. Click in the Look in drop down menu and click on the directory your GEDCOM file is stored in.

  5. Locate the GEDCOM file you want to upload and click it.  The file name will display in the File Name field.

  6. Click the Open button located on the right side of the window.  The file name, along with the file path, will display in the Upload File field.

  7. If you want to submit the file to the Ancestry World Tree, check the box next to Submit to Ancestry World Tree.

  8. To upload the GEDCOM file, click the Upload GEDCOM button.  A GEDCOM Upload page will display. It will take a few moments to upload the file.

  9. Click the Return to the Online Family Tree link located at the bottom of the page. The main Online Family Tree page will display allowing you to access the file from the list of available Online Family Trees. Note: You may need to click the Refresh or Reload button on your browser to view the updated file list.
