(also Žalar): occupational name for a rope maker from an obsolete loanword from Middle High German seiler (see Seiler ). (Žalar): status name for a day laborer who lived in a small house with no agricultural land from dialect žalar ‘cottager tenant’ from Middle High German seldener (compare Sellner ). Compare Saler Zallar and Zaller .
