Renowden Family History

Renowden Name Meaning

from the Middle English and Middle Cornish given name Renaudin or Reynoudin an Old French pet form of Reynold + the diminutive suffix -in. It is also found in the surname of Willelmus Reynnaldyn 1379 in Poll Tax (Lowick Northants) but the surname appears to have proliferated only in W Cornwall where Reynold was still well used as a given name in the 16th century for example Reynold Menyhy 1524 in Cornwall Subsidies (Budock). The stress on the second syllable of Renowden conforms to Cornish-language patterns rather than the usual English ones.
