Madgett Family History

Madgett Name Meaning

English (Norfolk): perhaps a variant pronunciation of Maggard from the Old French personal name Magard Machard with reduction of -ard to -et or perhaps from Maget or Machet as Old French pet forms of the same name + the diminutive suffix -et. Matchett is probably another variant. Alternatively Madgett is from a Middle English female personal name Magget an unrecorded diminutive form of Magge (see Madge ) itself a pet form of either Margery or Margaret.
