Americanized form of Slovenian Kuselj: nickname from a diminutive of dialect kus ‘blackbird’ (see Kus ). Possibly also an Americanized form of Slovenian Kuželj (see Kuzel ). Jewish (Ashkenazic): from the Yiddish personal name Kusl a pet form of the Biblical name Yekuthiel.
