Greenberry Family History
Greenberry Name Meaning
from Greenberry in Bolton upon Swale (NR Yorks). The place-name meant ‘green hill’ from Old English grēne + beorg. from Grandborough in Warwicks or Bucks earlier recorded as Greneberge with the same etymology as (1). Spellings with -b(o)urgh and -brough show the common confusion in Middle English of the reflexes of Old English beorg ‘hill’ and burh ‘fortified place’). Some of the later bearers below may alternatively belong with (1).
