Slovak Czech and possibly also Croatian (Doboš): from a derivative of any of various Old Slavic personal names such as Dobeslav based on dobъ ‘brave courageous’. Croatian (Doboš): metonymic occupational name from doboš ‘drum’ a loanword from Hungarian dobos ‘drummer’; or in part an adaptation of the cognate Hungarian surname Dobos (see 1 above). Americanized form of Polish Dobosz .
