from Blacon in Blacon cum Crabwall (Cheshire) which is recorded as Blachenol in 1093 Blachenot in 1096–1101 Blakene in about 1200 and Blacon alas Blakeney alias Blaconhall in 1580. The place-name derives from Old English blæc ‘black’ (oblique form blacan) + cnoll ‘hill summit’ alternating with cnotta ‘knot hillock’.
