peretun ‘pear orchard’ (a compound of pere ‘pear’ +
tun ‘enclosure’, with later change of -er- to
-ar-, a regular phonetic development in Middle English). There
are examples in Gloucestershire, two in Cumbria, and one in
Kircudbrightshire, Scotland.
