Turkish (Mügül), Iranian, Pakistani, or Indian:
from Persian Moghol, literally ‘Mongol’. This was the name of
the dynasty, of Mongolian origin, which ruled most of northern India
from the 16th to the 19th centuries, noted for their military prowess,
efficient administration, and religious tolerance.
As an English
word, this term became extended to denote any powerful ruler or
businessman; it may be an English nickname for a powerful person of an
autocratic disposition.
