Scottish (common in Aberdeenshire): occupational name for a miller
or someone who lived at a mill, Old English mylen ‘mill’ (see
Mill, Milner). The Scottish name found its way to
Ireland; MacLysaght records that it has been in Dublin since the early
18th century. In some cases it has absorbed Irish Moyle.
