The personal name thus probably means ‘beloved of Aodh’.
Northern Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Coinnigh ‘son of Coinneach’, an Old Irish personal name equivalent to Scottish Kenneth. Compare Kenny. Also the Scottish name as in 1.
