The marchbanks Surname
marchbanks Name Meaning and History
Scottish: variant of the surname Marjoribanks, which
according to Black was adopted by a family previously known as
Johnston, when, in the early 16th century, they acquired the
lands of Ratho-Marjoribankis in Renfrewshire. This estate was so
called from having been bestowed on Robert the Bruce’s daughter
Marjorie (see Margeson) on her marriage in 1316 to
Walter the High Steward.
