in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Hampshire. The first is probably so
named from Old English as fealu ‘fallow’ (probably used in the
sense ‘fallow deer’) + leah ‘woodland clearing’, while the
last two are from either Old English fealu ‘fallow-colored’ or
fealg ‘plowed land’ + leah.
