Czech (Dvorák): status name for a rich farmer, one who
owned a manor house, from Czech dvur ‘manor’, ‘estate’, or
in some cases an occupational name for someone who worked at a manor
house rather than on the land. Compare Sedlak. In Moravia the
term denoted a freeholder subject only to the king. This is the fourth
most common surname in the Czech lands.
