English: It has been proposed that this may be a variant of
Cliburn, but the latter is a northwestern English name whereas
Claiborne is found mostly in Norfolk and the southeast, so it
is more probably from a lost place in that part of England, perhaps
named with Old English cl?g ‘clay’ + burne ‘spring’,
‘stream’.
