chickering Name Meaning and History
English: unexplained. It is known that the Chickering(e)s or
Chickring(e)s who were in Dedham, MA, by c.1670 were originally
from Wrentham, Suffolk. However, only four Chickerings (all in
Staffordshire) and one Chickring (from Devon) were recorded in the
1881 British census and the surname since seems to have died out
altogether in the British Isles.
