English: probably a habitational name from an unidentified minor
place named with Old English brocc ‘badger’ + wiella
‘spring’, ‘stream’ or hol ‘hole’, ‘hollow’. Old English
brocchol is known to have developed into Brockwell in at
least one instance, in Derbyshire. Both Brockwell Park in London and
Brockwell Farm in Buckinghamshire are of comparatively recent origin,
probably deriving their names from the surname rather than vice versa.
