bezdek Name Meaning and History

Czech (Bezdek): probably from the adverb bezdeky ‘involuntarily’, ‘unintentionally’, possibly in the sense ‘carefree’, ‘untroubled’. The application as a surname is not clear. There are several place names in the Czech lands formed with this element, and although the surname is not a habitational name in form, it may nevertheless be derived from one of these. Moldanová cites a certain Jan Bezdecký from Bezdecí Hora, recorded in 1576.
