Meirgin, a variant of Ó hAimheirgin ‘descendant of
Aimheirgin’, a personal name in early Irish mythology and
historical tales, perhaps composed of the elements amhra
‘wonderful’ + gin ‘birth’. (The Gaelic pronunciation would have
an extra vowel between the r and the g, as shown in the
Anglicized spelling.)
