English: unexplained; possibly a variant of Beadle, or a
nickname from the breed of small hound called a beagle.
Alternatively, it may be from French bégueule ‘gaper’,
Old French begueulle ‘noisy shouting person’, a word which has
been proposed as the etymology of the English term for the
dog.
Possibly an Americanized spelling of German
Biegel.
