French: from the personal name Aubin (Latin Albinus,
a derivative of albus ‘white’). This was the name of several
minor early Christian saints, including a famous bishop of Angers
(died c. 554). At an early date, this name became confused with
the Germanic personal name Albuin (see Albin).
