Learn more about the Interactive Image
All changes and new features
Below is a list of all changes and new features included in the Interactive Image
Click and Drag - In addition to the onscreen panning and zooming controls, there are two ways you can navigate around the image in the Interactive Image viewer. The first is by clicking anywhere on the image, holding down your mouse button, and dragging your mouse in the direction that you wish to pan the image.

Keyboard Controls - The second way to navigate around the image is to use the arrow keys on your keyboard. This will enable you to pan left, right, up, or down. You may also use the "+" or "-" keys on your keyboard to zoom in or out. Press the "Home" key to move your current view to the far left edge of the current image. Press the "End" key to move your current view to the far right edge of the current image. Press the "Page Up" key to move to the top edge of the current image. Press the "Page Down" key to move to the bottom edge of the current image.

Mousewheel Zoom - If your mouse has a mousewheel, you can use it to zoom in or out of the image. Scrolling up on the mousewheel will zoom in and scrolling down on the mousewheel will zoom out.

Clicking the Save button will allow you to save the record highlighted in yellow to your tree or to save the image to your computer.
Right clicking the image will also allow you to save to your computer.
Tip: Some Internet browsers save files that you download from the Internet to a default location on your computer. To learn more about how to locate or change where files are saved by default, click on your browser below. These instructions may apply to only the latest version of the browser.
Clicking the print button opens a dialog that will allow you to print the entire image or only the portion that you are currently viewing. You can choose to include source and index information as well as see a preview of what you are printing.
Do not use the print function from your browser. This will cause the image to print with all of the onscreen controls and menus from the viewer.
The Index Panel can be opened either by selecting "View index" from the "Actions" menu or by clicking the green "Index" tab at the bottom of the image viewer. This will open a panel that displays all of the indexed data that is currently available for the image. It will also highlight your currently selected household in green and currently selected person in yellow.
Format, Compatibility, and Performance
+
Image format - We are now "tiling" the images, which allows us to deliver just the pieces of the image at the right resolution that you need to view on the screen. As you zoom in or move an image on the screen, you may see parts of the image start out blurry and then become clear. This is caused by the next set of tiles loading. Overall, the images should load faster.
Support for more browsers - The Interactive Image Viewer can run on more browsers than our Standard Viewer, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari.
Uses Adobe Flash Player - Some of the changes and additional platform support are enabled by the use of Adobe Flash. If your system doesn't support the Adobe Flash Player 10.0 or later, you will need to use the Standard Viewer.
Faster Performance - The new viewer (and all that goes on behind-the-scenes to provide the image) is designed to be faster. This should help users who have slower internet connections.
Family Highlights
Find people quickly with automatic highlighting of the entire household, where available.
Yellow highlight - Whether you selected someone from your tree or searched for someone new, that person will be highlighted in yellow when viewing his or her record in the Interactive Image Viewer.
Green highlight - If the person that is highlighted in yellow is in a household that has any other members, they will all be highlighted in green.
Orange highlight - An orange highlight will be placed on any row that is not already highlighted in green or yellow when your mouse hovers over that row.
Informative Tips
Hover over each cell to see a transcription and learn more about each fact in the record, where available.
Name Label Overlay
When zoomed in on the image, a transcription of the name from each row on the image will appear on the left side of the viewer once you have panned beyond the image's name column. This will allow you to view any part of the image without losing track of which name was on each row.
Rotate left and Rotate right - These menu items will rotate the image by 90 degrees in either the left (counter-clockwise) or right (clockwise) direction.
Flip Horizontally and Flip Vertically - Flip the image.
Invert Colors - Reverse the colors of the image (black becomes white, white becomes black, etc). In some cases, this will allow the image to be more easily viewed.
More and Less Contrast - Improve the contrast to make the image more readable.
